Let’s Talk Men’s Mental Health

On June 6, Kismet of Kings partnered with the Earl A. Morgan Branch Library to host a Men's Mental Health Community Conversation in recognition of Men's Health Month. Community members from across Jersey City came together for an afternoon centered on connection, reflection, and honest dialogue.

Rather than offering a traditional presentation, the event created space for participants to engage in meaningful conversations about the challenges men often carry in silence. During one reflective activity, every participant was asked to put on a mask. Together, the group discussed how many men wear different "masks" throughout their lives to meet expectations at work, at home, in relationships, and in their communities. Participants were then invited to share what their own masks represented, speaking openly about the emotions, pressures, and experiences they often feel compelled to hide. At the conclusion of the activity, each man removed his mask, symbolizing the release of those burdens and the freedom to show up more authentically.

Throughout the afternoon, conversations explored emotional well-being, healthy coping strategies, and the importance of building supportive relationships within the community. The event reminded participants that vulnerability is not a weakness but a strength, and that healing often begins when people are given the opportunity to be seen, heard, and supported.

Kismet of Kings remains committed to creating spaces where young people and community members alike can build meaningful relationships, prioritize their mental wellness, and strengthen the bonds that help our communities thrive.
