Building Pathways: Kismet of Kings x Jersey City Alphas Career Panel
On June 14th, Kismet of Kings took another bold step in expanding opportunities for our young leaders with the launch of our first-ever Career Panel Discussion in partnership with the Jersey City Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
From the start, the goal was clear: expose our students to real stories from real people doing real work – and to do it in a way that felt honest, relatable, and deeply personal.
The event kicked off with a panel of Alpha brothers representing a range of fields: education, construction management, journalism, public administration, and the music industry. Each speaker brought their own unique journey to the table, reflecting on the choices, challenges, and turning points that shaped their paths.
They spoke candidly about what it means to navigate college, career shifts, personal setbacks, and leadership as Black men in America. From the realities of building a career in media to breaking barriers in education and public service, the conversation was both inspiring and unfiltered.
Leading the charge as moderator was one of our very own - an NJCU graduate, Kismet alum, and rising professional in the music and advertising industries. With skill and heart, he guided the dialogue, wove in student questions, and made space for authentic connection between panelists and participants.
Following the panel, students and guests had the chance to mingle during a Social Hour, providing space for everyone to connect deeply and share information on opportunities with our young men.
The afternoon wasn’t just about professional advice – it was about seeing possibility, feeling seen, and realizing that success comes in many forms.
This Career Panel marks an exciting chapter in the growing relationship between Kismet of Kings and the Jersey City Alphas. What started as casual conversations earlier this spring is quickly blossoming into a partnership rooted in mentorship, shared mission, and a collective commitment to uplifting the next generation of Black male leaders in Jersey City.
What’s next?
More panels. More mentorship. More moments where our young men get to see themselves reflected in the professionals shaping their community.
We’re grateful to the Jersey City Alphas for showing up, sharing truth, and helping build the foundation for what’s to come.
Here’s to the next conversation – and the many doors it will open.
